Srinagar, Dec 07 (KNO): Even as the government has claimed to provide tap water to the entire households in Jammu and Kashmir by March 2022, various villages located in different areas of south Kashmir are craving for potable water. Residents of Dadoo village which is about 7 kms from Bijbehara area in south Kashmir's Anantnag district have alleged that tall claims of Jal Shakti Department are getting punctured here as authorities have failed to provide drinking water facility to the area. The locals said that the authorities have “failed” to provide them with a drinking water facility despite installing water pipelines in 2016. The inhabitants said that the village has been without drinking water facilities for the last five years and now they have been waiting for a connection after a water pipeline was installed, “thus leaving the entire population to consume unsafe water.” According to locals, the PHE department started a water supply scheme in Marhma area, a decade back with an aim to provide drinking water facility to Dudoo as well However, the residents said since then more than nine years have passed but they are yet to get a single drop of drinking water from the proposed scheme. The locals further said that they approached the concerned authorities several times, requesting them to provide drinking water to the village, “but to no avail”. One of the residents said that almost 250 households are without drinking water facilities due to which locals are facing immense hardships. Locals from Trich village in Pulwama have also alleged that a water supply scheme has been installed in the area, but half of the village is yet to be connected. They said that a filtration plant hasn't been installed at the scheme due to which the water which is being supplied to half of the village is also contaminated. Moreover, the Zahidbagh village in Pulwama and Darbagj village in Shopian said that they had a water scheme in the area before 2014, “but as of now no filtration plant has been installed there due to which people are forced to drink contaminated water.” Locals of these areas have urged the concerned authorities to look into the issue so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
